Good People Are a Blessing

Good People Are a Blessing

There is something powerful about the right people reminding you who you are.

And whew. When it happens, it is stronger than the first sip of the strongest espresso shot.

Because there really are people who walk into your life and somehow help you remember the parts of yourself you almost misplaced.

Not because they are loud about it. Not because they give big speeches or come in acting like your personal life coach with a clipboard. Sometimes they just see you clearly when you are too tired, too overwhelmed, or too deep in your own head to see yourself.

That is a blessing.

I have been thinking about how easy it is to forget who you are in certain seasons.

Caregiving can make you forget. Building a business can make you forget. Grief can make you forget. Starting over can make you forget. Being the “strong one” for too long can absolutely make you forget.

And sometimes life will have you out here acting like your dreams expired just because you got tired.

That is why good people matter.

The right people do not make you feel smaller. They do not need you to shrink so they can feel comfortable. They do not clap only when you are useful to them. They do not quietly celebrate when you are struggling.

Good people remind you of your light without trying to stand in its way.

They will say, “Girl, you know you can do this.”

They will ask, “Have you eaten today?”

They will tell you the truth without cutting you with it.

They will laugh with you when life is being extra, pray for you when words are not enough, and gently pull you back when you start talking yourself out of the very thing God already gave you the grace to carry.

That kind of friendship is not small.

That kind of support is not common.

And let me say this part too: good people are not always a big crowd.

Sometimes it is one person. One steady voice. One faithful friend. One cousin, sister, daughter, auntie, church friend, business bestie, or unexpected person God placed nearby at just the right time.

One person who says, “I still see you.”

That can be enough to help you breathe again.

I think we live in a time where everybody talks about protecting their peace, setting boundaries, cutting people off, and choosing themselves. And yes, some of that is necessary. Some people do need to be loved from a distance so far away they need binoculars.

But we also need to talk about the blessing of safe people.

People who make your nervous system unclench.

People who do not turn every conversation into a competition.

People who celebrate your wins without needing to measure them against their own.

People who can sit with you in silence, send a ridiculous meme at the exact right moment, or remind you that just because today was heavy does not mean your whole life is broken.

Those are good people.

And when you have them, you should thank God for them.

When you are one of them, you should know that your presence matters.

Because sometimes being a blessing is not about having perfect words. Sometimes it is sending the message, making the call, holding space, telling the truth kindly, or reminding somebody, “You are still you. This season did not erase that.”

That quote stayed with me because it reminded me that we are not meant to become who we are alone.

Yes, we need quiet time. Yes, we need prayer. Yes, we need to learn how to stand on our own two feet.

But we also need people who can lovingly tap the table and say, “Don’t forget what God put in you.”

So this week, I am thinking about the good people.

The ones who helped me remember.

The ones who made room for the real me, not just the productive me.

The ones who saw the tired version, the overthinking version, the “I might delete everything and start fresh” version, and still stayed steady.

Good people are a blessing.

And maybe this week is a good time to tell them.

Take this into the week:
Reach out to one good person in your life and let them know they have been a blessing to you. It does not have to be fancy. A simple “I appreciate you” can do more than you know.

Coffee Chat Question:
Who is one person who reminds you who you are when life makes you forget?
